Now showing at the Drama Theatre is Woman in Mind, one of the most successful plays by the popular British playwright Alan Ayckbourn.
Susan is forty-something and starved of affection by her vicar husband and distant son. Her life revolves around a kitchen sink, floral print dresses and a small manicured garden inhabited only by a concrete frog.
Until one morning, she steps on a rake and knocks herself out.
When she wakes, husband and son are still there. But so is a devoted fantasy husband, brimming with charm. Not to mention a pair of fantasy children; perfect, winsome, straight out of a catalogue.
Susan basks in the adoration of her imaginary family, managing to balance the fantasy she relishes with the tedium of her real life, but inevitably, events spin out of control and chaos and farce build to a comically frenzied and nightmarish climax.
