...This May, the Relaxed & Comfortable Group, the mob behind the Darlinghurst’s phenomenally successful Cloud 9, will take you on a comic and unholy trip into the black arts, infidelity, lust, love and betrayal...
The Illusion is a play written by a Frenchman in 1636, set in the cave of a magician which somehow involves the story of a father who has lost contact with his son, spurring a manhunt that ultimately leads the father to the magician in his cave.
Here in the cave the magician gives the father three glimpses of where his son is. The adaptation of the play strays from the original a little in some aspects as Damien Millar, the Director of the production says; “We take it from a 17th century cave, right through to modern times. The final episode is set in a Melbourne nightclub with drugs and guns.”
It seems good, a little quirky, maybe a little strange and definitely absurdist. I think independent theatre needs a bit of a nod every now and then, its good people working hard for virtually - if not - nothing.
Get going down to the Darlinghurst Theatre Company, found at 19 Greenknowe Avenue, Potts Point and for only $28 full price and $22 for concession you can have a good time supporting independent theatre!
The Illusion runs from Wednesday 3 May to Saturday 27 May 2006. Tuesday to Saturday @ 8pm and Sunday @ 5pm. Bookings essential through the site.
Well this brings us to the end of the 10 Best things to do in May, it was a hell of a lot of effort, but it meant that i had to actually plan what i was going to do for the whole week, I found it much easier than writing on the fly. If you found it to be a good idea or useful in your pursuit of ultimate happiness, let me know.
