The Da Vinci Code Movie....
I consider this to be a major event of May, purely because if you don’t see it, then you will feel lonely and left out. Obviously, the novel was written to be on the screen, so i guess you wont miss all that much if you don’t see it in the cinema, but then again, if you don’t see it at the movies, you wont get to criticize it! Although, thats not really for me to do, that’s more the domain of 20/20 filmsight...
So what if you haven’t read the book (or the special edition hardcover with illustrations that i have in my room)? Well never fear, hears everything you need to know to get you up to date:
The Da Vinci Code is a thriller that collates a lot of google searched Christian related conspiracies into one convenient place. The reason it has been so controversial is that many believe Dan Brown has present much of the fiction and conspiracies in the novel as fact (however at no point does he state that anything with in the novel but for the barest of content, is actually fact). The plot goes something like this (from IMDB);
While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon ('Tom Hanks') receives an urgent late-night phone call: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Near the body, police have found a baffling cipher. Solving the enigmatic riddle, Langdon is stunned to discover it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci - clues visible for all to see, and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter. Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion - an actual secret society. In a breathless race through Paris, London and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who appears to work for Opus Dei - a clandestine, Vatican-sanctioned Catholic organization believed to have long plotted to seize the Priory's secret. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's secret - and a stunning historical truth - will be lost forever.
I think when The Da Vinci Code movie hits Australia, it will be received with much the same feeling as the book: Everyone will see it, some will love it, some will hate it, but the majority will forget about it in 2 weeks. The movie opens in cinemas in Australia on the 18th of May.
Don't forget about Freudian Slip!

Hmm, more exciting things to do! My friend is attempting to drag me to some amateur stand-up tonight (he's performing). I remember you doing a post on comedy- for all those hopeful young talents out there, where can they go to get started, and where can we go to laugh?
There, I reward linkage with research assignments. Go Matt, go!
