The Sydney Comedy Store
June 1st 2006 05:12
Today is a bit of a short one, if I have some extra time after tomorrow's entry, I may expand on it a little though. If you live or seek entertainment in the city of Sydney you may well know that the Comedy scene is not all that fantastic, no where near the quantity of a heavy weight like say Melbourne. However, Sydney does have one jewel in its comedy venue crown - The Sydney Comedy Store.
Never heard of it?
Well The Comedy Store has been around for a while (est. 1981) and has played host not only to local comics, but international acts like Robin Williams, Tom Arnold and Arj Barker. The sheer fact that it can attract well known international talent is definitely a positive for the venue, which has also launched the careers of well know Aussies like Rodney Rude, Dave Hughes and Adam Hills. The other indication of its status is that a venue dedicated to comedy has survived in Sydney for 25 years, an amazing feat that gives a fairly good indication of the quality of the venue. The pricing isn’t too bad, even for a uni student:
Regular Programming:
Tues & Wed: $15 / $10 concession
Thurs: $20
Fri: $27.50
Sat: $29.50
Special Event Prices:
Mon-Wed: $20 / $15 concession
Thurs: $22 / $17 concession
Fri, Sat & Sun: $29.50
The Comedy Store is located at The Entertainment Quarter 207 / 122 Lang Rd Moore Park
tel 02 9357 1419
boxoffice@comedystore.com.au
This month looks like a cracker at The Comedy Store, with well known comic acts like Steady Eddy, Tripod and Tom Gleeson making several appearances in the coming weeks. For more information on The Comedy Store, events, bookings etc go to their site here.
