'Pics In The Park' outdoor film festival
November 16th 2007 02:00
'Pics In The Park' is an annual outdoor film festival in Fitzroy Gardens in Kings Cross.
This year, the program features two documentaries: Jabe Babe and Projecting the Body; the 1982 Gillian Armstrong rock musical Starstruck, along with short films made by local filmmakers.
Projecting the Body is an intimate look at filmmaker Stephen Cummins' who blazed a trail through the tumultuous 1980s, examining oppression, desire, and the politics of sexuality. Reacting against the environment of AIDS paranoia and ensuing homophobia, Stephen created films that are bold in their politics and beautiful in their poetry.
Directed by Gillian Armstrong, Starstruck is a classic Australian rock musical with catchy tunes by The Swingers and choreography by David Atkins. Starstruck is a celebration of the tunes and fashion of the alternative music scene in Sydney in the 1980's and is fun and thoroughly enjoyable to watch.
