Finnish operatic metal band, Nightwish, was "born" in July 1996 at midnight when a group of friends spent a night around a campfire.
The band's first single, "The Carpenter" (1997) and debut album Angels Fall First launched them into the local public eye but it was their subsequent albums, Oceanborn (1998) and Wishmaster (2000) which garnered international attention and fame.
Nightwish's music features powerful keyboard tones and soaring symphony arrangements reminiscent of classic film scores combined with their distinct combination of seductive, emotional and operatic vocals and gallant guitar melodies has ensured a patriotic fan base across the globe.
The band is touring Australia in support of their newly released album, Dark Passion Play (Sept. 2007).
