Much Ado About Nothing
January 28th 2008 05:15
Shakespeare has left an unassailable mark on our collective conscious, and with good reason - his plays have shaped the language and given generations of high school students material to write half-hearted essays.
It's easy to quote Shakespeare, either from Hamlet or Romeo and Juliet, or even Merchant of Venice, where we get the 'if you prick us, do we not bleed'?
Quoting Shakespeare is a tricky venture, though. Uttering a line without understanding the play it came from, or even the context in which it's spoken can be a tenuous path to walk.
But when was the last time you enjoyed a production from the Bard? High School?
The Sydney Shakespeare Festival starts up this month, starting with Much Ado About Nothing, showing at Glebe's Bicentennial Park, near the fetid odours of the Blackwattle Bay.
You can catch the show from Jan. 11. until Feb. 17, at 8 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, It's free for ankle-biters and the elderly, but the rest of us will have to fork up $25 ($20 concession).
Outdoor theatre is a great way to scratch two itches with one stone - get your fix of theatre, but manage to enjoy these gorgeous summer nights!
