How To Find Out What's On In Sydney

In my daily trek across the interweb to find fun and interesting things to do in Sydney I stumbled across a site known as ‘What’s On Sydney’, who welcome their visitors with the following:
"Welcome to the only dedicated site to 'What's On' in Sydney"
Now I do this a lot, I look at scores of sites every day to find the most interesting things happening around Sydney for your entertainment. There are many sites that have huge amounts of content dedicated particularly to events and entertainment around Sydney (like the one you're reading right now). I find this statement a little offensive... either the creator hasn't researched the topic at all or has decided to completely ignore the efforts of many other sites that have as much if not more information on current events in Sydney. So today I though I would share some of these sites with you... I don’t think this is an act of self sabotage, rather giving a bit of acknowledgment to sites that have helped me in times where events seemed sparse in this, our fair city of Sydney.
Firstly, and most obviously is the site that sells most of the tickets to events in Sydney, covering pretty much all of the main stages, arenas, and performance spaces not only in Australia - Its Ticketek. It is a really good site for finding out about events in Sydney, not only are the search facilities easy to use, but you can purchase tickets at the same time. It has comedy, theatre, music, lifestyle and various other categories to peruse.
Next is BCL - Australian City Life Sites. BCL is a handy little site, which unlike Ticketek, does not list events strictly on the basis of whether they are selling the tickets. The navigation is again excellent, with just a few quick clicks you get to the Sydney City Life page that lists a huge number of things happening in Sydney in chronoligical order. This page relies on submissions from readers, ensuring a varied flavour of events, large and small, around Sydney.
Next is What's On Sydney. While the opening line on the home page may be offensive to other writing on the same topic, the site is none the less useful. The layout is pretty and easy to read, set out more like a blog than a website, some kind of comment facility would be helpful! The content is mostly theatre and doesn't quite have the extensive bank of events that BCL has.
There are also the various music related sites, like the Metro Theatre and Annandale Hotel. They both promote their coming events well with easy to find 'coming soon' links on their pages. These sites are particularly useful if you love your pub gigs.
Lastly is Sydney Diary. Sydney Diary filters a whole host of events to ensure that every day the most interesting and entertaining things are relayed to the readership. This also includes some evaluation of the event, rather than simply a strict reporting tact. Sydney Diary aims to arm the reader with a more extensive knowledge of why it's worth while attending an event.
That's all for today, tomorrow: All about Dendy.

fyi that pic was taken at the longnecks gig at the annandale hotel two days before the big day out this year. the longnecks are one of the names the living end go by when doing small shows to test new songs.
being at a gig with the greatest live australian rock band and only 200 other people was absolutely kickass.
ofcourse i got enough tickets to take matt and some others along
