I went and caught this on Friday night, sharing the Tarantino/Rodriguez masterpiece with a full house of grindhouse fans!
It was fantastic - look for a review later on 20/20 Filmsight.
The question is: when are YOU going to see "Grindhouse"?
It's not an easy feat... the movie is a double feature, Rodriguez made "Planet Terror", a gory movie about some plucky characters trying to stay alive in the face of an impending zombie outbreak; Tarantino made "Death Proof" a car chase movie about a stuntman-turned-serial-killer that kills women with his car.
Unfortunately, American audiences didn't show approval with their pocketbooks, and "Grindhouse" did very poorly, despite the fact that it's a beautiful homage to a very American contribution to cinema.
As a result, the distributors split the movies apart, marketing them separately... We got "Death Proof" here in Sydney, but it's just not the same.. the intermission previews are some of the best things about this movie!
Luckily for everyone, the Chauvel Cinema is running "Grindhouse" for one week only!
And if zombies, gore and car chases aren't enough for you... a good B-movie has hot babes kicking ass, and they do: enter Rosario Dawson and Rose McGowan. Yeeaaaow!
