Designed by Edward Blore, the same architect that designed the Buckingham Palace, Sydney's Government House is the most sophisticated example of Gothic Revival architecture in Australia.
Built in the 1840s, the Government House has been home to 27 Governors from 1846 to 1996 while each Governor has made alterations and improvements to the house depending on their tastes and needs.
Since 1996, admission to Government House has been free after former NSW Premier Bob Carr announced that Government House would no longer be set aside as the private residence of the Governor.
