Known as 'the finest house in the colony', Elizabeth Bay House was built between 1835 and 1839 for the Colonial Secretary of New South Wales at the time, Alexander Macleay.
The House is a fine example of grand, colonial architecture in a magnificent setting overlooking Sydney Harbour in the city's East. Set on a 54 acre garden, the ground floor comprises seven rooms, including drawing room, dining room, saloon and library painting an evocative picture of 19th century life. Climb the grand staircase to the upper floor and you will find elegantly furnished bedrooms, morning room and maid's room.
